Penn State Osmond Renovation and Osmond North Building (Physics)
The Penn State Osmond Lab Renovation and Osmond North Building is located at and behind the existing Osmond Lab Building on central campus and is split into 3 Sequences.
Sequence 0 – Site Enabling (Bid Pack 0.01) involves site utilities and the construction of a new access road.
Sequence 1 – North Osmond Building (Bid Pack 1) is an estimated $80M, 111,000 sq. ft. new building, the first phase in a “one home” for the Department of Physics. The new building will include approximately 28,000 sq. ft. of physics laboratories, the majority in the basement stretched between two distinct buildings. The General-Purpose Classroom (GPC) Building is a new 350pp tiered lecture hall with pre-function space and a lab prep space for both Physics and Chemistry demonstrations. The GPC also includes a penthouse for mechanical equipment for the lecture hall and a portion of the basement lab space. The 2nd building, referred to as the “tower,” is a three-story building plus a mechanical penthouse attached to the north side of the existing lab building and includes classrooms, additional lab space, including a high bay, offices, and a colloquium as well as support spaces. This sequence will also include enabling work to and within the existing lab, including demolition of the existing Osmond Building lecture hall, hazardous abatement, and some enabling structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical work to different systems and spaces. This sequence will also include the mass excavation, shoring and underpinning, structural piles, and final sitework and landscaping for the north side of the building, to include a plaza and final paving of the loop road.
