Agricultural Engineering Building Renewal (IPD Delivery)
The University intends to renovate / rebuild the Agricultural Engineering Building. Penn State’s Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) Department has outgrown its facilities in every area. The IPD (Integrated Project Delivery) team has a need to bring construction trade partners on board to help renovate and rebuild the Agricultural Engineering Building in University Park, PA. The project consists of a renovation of a 16,000 Sq. Ft. front multi-story historical section of the building, demolition of the remainder of the building, and approximately 77,000 Sq. Ft. of new construction. The project plans to incorporate new undergraduate education labs, research labs, support spaces for labs, faculty offices, general purpose classrooms, a fermentation facility, and an OPP area maintenance shop.
As a core value of the project, the project is intended to incorporate sustainable principles into both project delivery and the building design. The project will be pursuing LEED certification. Construction volume is estimated at approximately $30 million. The targeted project start is August of 2016 with a completion date of winter 2017.
The project will be led by a Project Management Team (PMT), a multi-party group comprised of Penn State University, EYP Architecture & Engineering, DPR Construction, MMC Mechanical and Lighthouse Electric. The PMT will meet weekly and ultimately be responsible for enforcement of collaborative principles. The PMT expects a high-level of commitment to collaboration, integration, and the other ideals of IPD from every party and every level for the entirety of the project. If you are unfamiliar with Integrated Project Delivery, we recommend reading up on the process to understand what will be expected of all team members as well as the efficiencies we expect to achieve through this process.
