Voluntary Electric Load Curtailment University Park

Voluntary electric load curtailment possible this week at University Park

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

Expected high temperatures and relative humidity could result in daily voluntary electric load curtailment scenarios at University Park starting Tuesday, July 16, and lasting through Friday, July 19. If implemented, a curtailment would most likely take place from 4 to 6 p.m. but could vary with conditions.

Voluntary curtailment actions would reduce Penn State’s peak load contribution to the regional electric grid by implementing a 3-degree temperature setback (75 degrees to 78 degrees) in noncritical spaces during the two-hour period. Note that temperatures in research and critical spaces would remain unchanged.

In addition, everyone is asked to cooperate by turning off all unnecessary lighting, office equipment, coffee pots, etc., to reduce both the campus air conditioning load and electrical consumption.
