Penn State introduces new, mobile-friendly online visitor maps

Friday, August 17, 2018

Visitors to Penn State’s locations statewide will find it easier to navigate their way around campus with the launch of new, enhanced online maps.

Updated maps are now available for University Park and the majority of the Commonwealth Campuses; links are provided below for both those that are completed and those still in progress.

Each new map, available for both desktop and mobile platforms, includes 3D views of campus and integrates with Open Street Maps for areas around campus.

The map project is co-sponsored by the Offices of the Vice President for Information Technology and Vice President for Strategic Communications, and is led by a University-wide team of representatives from various academic and administrative units.

“The interactive maps will provide students and visitors with a modern, mobile-friendly experience for anyone planning a visit to a Penn State campus,” said Lawrence Lokman, vice president for Strategic Communications.

Features planned for University Park will include real-time information on bus locations and computer lab availability to assist students. Additional features will include walking tours that will help visitors find their way around campus and a 3D virtual tour to bring the campus to life from anywhere in the world.

“This project is another example of Penn State’s commitment to use technology for powerful change, and we’re pleased to play a critical leadership role in this effort,” said Michael Kubit, vice president for Information Technology and chief information officer.

Maps also will include up-to-date information about campus events such as student arrival days, commencement, new student orientation, Homecoming, and arts and athletic events. Map users are encouraged to check back often, as new features will continue to be added over time.
