Substantial Completion: April 2024
Location: Penn State Scranton
Design: Chiang | O'Brien Architects

The goals of the Penn State Scranton Library Nursing Building renovation included providing additional space for the growing nursing program and promoting an innovative, collaborative library space that actively engages students. The library features a new main entrance with a fully glazed wall opening to the main lobby corridor, transparent collaboration rooms, exhibit and display areas, flexible program zones, and updated furniture and lighting to support a modern learning environment. The nursing space is equipped with five simulation labs, a skills lab, and several debrief and conference spaces.
The building is organized across two floors, each with distinct programmatic functions: a library on the main floor and a nursing program on the lower level. Key design elements include accessible north, and south entrance additions connected by a vertical circulation corridor, a public lobby and atrium at the library entrance, and a rooftop penthouse.
