Building Permits

In 2004, the State of Pennsylvania adopted a set of standards that regulates new construction and renovations to residential and commercial buildings in the State of Pennsylvania. These standards are collectively known as The Uniform Construction Code (UCC). Enforcement of the UCC began in April 2004.

Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry (L&I)

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) is the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for all Penn State construction projects unless specifically exempt by the UCC. All plan reviews, permitting and inspections are performed by L&I personnel. New construction projects and renovations must follow the International Building Codes (IBC, IMC, IPC, IEBC, etc.). For a list of current standards adopted and enforced by L&I visit their website. They provide information regarding both Annual Permits for minor alterations or replacements in a facility and the status of all Building Permits for current construction projects.
