Manhole Entry Procedures
Purpose:
To provide procedures for all personnel entering manholes
Policies and Procedures:
The following procedures are to be instituted immediately:
- All personnel that enter manholes must be fitted for and have in their possession an OSHA approved body harness.
- ANYONE entering or exiting a manhole must be attached, via their body harness, to an OSHA approved tripod, properly set-up and manned above the manhole.
- Once in the manhole, the tripod cable can be removed while working in the manhole.
- All appropriate utility vehicles will be stocked with an OSHA approved tripod.
There are many hazards present in the manholes we routinely enter. These procedures will help insure that personnel entering and exiting those manholes will be able to do so in a safe manner. Also, should an accident occur while working in the manhole, the affected personnel can quickly be removed to a safe environment since they will already be wearing
