Room 27/28 ASI
Purpose:
To set OPP policy regarding room 27 ASI.
Policies and Procedures:
Due to research that may cause accidental exposure to HIV (a.k.a. the AIDS virus), the Biosafety Officer and Dr. Henderson of the Veterinary Science Department have set up the following guidelines regarding Room 27 ASI.
- Both entry doors to the laboratory have been posted with biohazard warning signs and instructions that no one should enter without authorization from either Dr. Henderson or the Biosafety Officer (Curt Speaker, 865-6391)
- No Janitorial employees will be asked to enter the laboratory. Wastes that are generated in the laboratory will be autoclaved before disposal and will be picked up by the Environmental Health and Safety Office. Notebook paper and other office trash that is generated by the laboratory will be placed in a normal trashcan. When the can is full, the staff will place the trashcan in the hallway outside of the laboratory proper. In this way, janitorial personnel may empty the can without entering the laboratory.
- Trades persons will also not be asked to enter the laboratory without Dr. Henderson or the Biosafety Officer being present.
- Any after-hours calls from CCS or other emergencies should be reported to both Dr. Henderson and the Biosafety Officer. Emergency telephone numbers are posted on the laboratory door.
