Fiberglass
Purpose:
To establish a procedure to follow to prevent unnecessary exposure to fiberglass.
Policies and Procedures:
- Long-sleeved clothing, gloves, and goggles should be worn in order to limit skin and eye exposure.
- If contaminated clothing cannot be laundered separately, disposable Tyvek suits should be worn. These are the same suits ordered by OPP Stores.
- Any exposed skin should be washed with soap and water after handling fiberglass products.
- EHS does not recommend the use of any disposable respirator (such as the 3M Model 9900). Employees should wear the MSA Comfo II half-face respirator with proper cartridges. Type "F" (white fabric) cartridges are acceptable; however, EHS advises that the Type "H" (pink screw-on) filter cartridge be used.
- Sewing, cutting, blowing, spraying, or tearing out of any fiberglass materials may generate excessive fiber levels and require the above work practices be followed. The only exception to this is removal or installation of pre-cut or pre-formed air filters, where excessive fiber levels are not expected.
