Hoist Inspection Procedure
Purpose:
To provide safety inspection procedures to be followed before using hoist equipment.
Policies and Procedures:
- Wipe hoist clean of grease and debris. Use degreaser if necessary.
- Visually inspect the hoist components for wear/stress fractures. If the hoist is electrically driven, inspect that all electrical connections are secure, and check the electric cable for wear. Do not use if wear is evident until repairs are made.
- Extend chain/cable to maximum length; inspect the connection to the drum. Rewind the chain/cable; visually inspect the chain cable for wear. Do not use if wear is evident until repairs are made.
- Visually inspect the ratchet mechanism for wear and proper operation. Do not use if wear is evident until repairs are made.
- Be sure load-rating tag is readable. If unreadable, do not use. Do not exceed load rating tag weight. Always select a hoist that is capable of lifting the load you must move.
- After inspection is completed, lubricate, as necessary, before next operation.
- For specific operational/maintenance information, refer to manufacturer's manual. Please inspect hoist before each use.
