Goal:
To study and improve the work generation of signs and the approval process for sign fabrication

Problem/Background:
- Work generation of signs and the approval process for fabrication is losing time and inflating the costs of signs
- There are several ways to initiate a sign order
- There is a lack of detail in customer requests
- There is difficulty imposing a consistent standard
- Much time is lost determining whether a sign will follow the standard
- Master Plan for signs and Way Finding Project will soon be initiated
- Most of the problems relate to interior signs
Objective:
- Reduce lost time in front end of sign making process
- Reduce cost of signs
Constraints/Resources:
- Continue to meet customer's expectations
- No additional staff will be available
- Money could be available for educating/documenting/ordering process
Key Performance Measures:
- Time clarifying customers requests
- Time clarifying sign standard issue
- Time securing material to make sign
- Cost of Signs (labor and material)
Expected Results:
- Implement changes in the process to order and approve signs for fabrication
- Follow up to ensure changes are effective and remain in place
Review Milestones:
- Flow diagram for the existing process is complete
- Team has completed evaluations of options
- Implementation plan has been developed

Update:
- Instituted Information Gathering System (IGS)
- Started a web page
- Distributed IGS to staff assistants, service desk personnel, RENO supervisors, pcs
- Reduced the cost of the ADA style signage by approx. $7/sign
