Condensate Hardness Process Action Team
Goal:
To study and improve the process to locate the source of hardness in the condensate return system
Sponsor:
David Burns
Members:
- Gene Kurtz, Leader
- Toner Bower
- Todd Campbell
- Larry Hoy
- Jim Smith
- Bernadine Harrity, Facilitator
Problem/Background:
- Excessive number of man-hours spent locating the source of hardness in the condensate return system
- Condensate hardness is checked on a daily basis
- When hardness is detected, the maintenance crew is pulled from scheduled activities to search for the cause of the hardness
- There are 35 checkpoints located in tunnels and manholes requiring two people at each location
Objective:
Reduce man-hours spent locating hardness in the condensate return system
Constraints/Resources:
- Money available for investment in new equipment
- No additional staff will be available
Key Performance Measures:
- Man-hours per occurrence spent locating hardness problems
- Elapsed time per occurrence.
Expected Results:
Implement the work process changes and follow up to ensure changes are effective and remain in place.
Review Milestones:
- Team agrees with problem statement and objectives
- Micro flowchart developed
- Options determined and evaluated
- Implementation plan developed
Desired Report Out Date:
March 1999
