Chapter 5 - Communications
Vision
In 2001, CQI is the common language in our everyday communication. Communication is free and open between all employees. OPP operates under an established CQI Communication Plan designed to support and implement CQI and evaluates progress through measurements.
Current Assessment
- There is no stated goal or definitive plan to publicize and communicate CQI implementation and progress.
- CQI is not the everyday language in doing our work. Supervisory personnel are not having CQI meetings and CQI is not consistently a stated element of Managers' meetings.
- Graphical displays of process monitoring and improvement have not been defined.
- There is currently no planned method to measure effectiveness of CQI communications.
Actions
- Management and team leaders will hold open discussions to eliminate barriers so an open exchange of CQI ideas is commonplace.
- Management and team leaders will communicate with team members using the new behavior instead of management directing subordinates as in the old behavior.
- Management will make CQI techniques a planned and distinct part of managers', staff, and crew meetings.
- The team leaders will submit process improvement results to the CQI Coordinator.
- The CQI Coordinator will publish process improvement results.
- Management and team leaders will graphically display process improvements in work areas to stimulate, encourage, and advertise the CQI process.
- Management and team leaders will celebrate and share process improvement successes through team presentations and recognition.
- The ESG will implement and publicize an employee suggestion program.
- The ESG will develop employee surveys as outlined in Chapter 10. The surveys will be used to gauge long-term trends in communication.
- Team leaders and the CQI Coordinator will evaluate short-term results through random interviews.
- The CQI QMB will develop innovative and interesting CQI marketing strategies that will be implemented through the CQI Coordinator. Weekly and monthly publications will be used.
- The CQI Coordinator will establish and implement a parallel awareness program for all others in the organization as outlined in Chapter 6, while the first teams are developing.
