Utility Services

Manager: David L. Burns, dlb11@nw.opp.psu.edu

The Utility Services group is composed of Electrical Services, Steam Services, Utility Construction Services, and Water Services. Our goal is to provide and distribute high quality, reliable high voltage electricity, steam, natural gas, compressed air and potable water to the University Park campus facilities. In addition, we collect, manage and treat wastewater and storm water.

Electricity and natural gas are purchased from outside suppliers. Steam, potable water and compressed air are produced and treated internally. Wastewater is also treated internally. The University owns two steam plants and a wastewater treatment plant. The plants are staffed and operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The distribution crews work five days a week to perform maintenance and repair activities on the systems. The construction crew works five days a week to replace aging components of the systems and make additions to existing systems as needed.
