Engineering Units

Engineering Services provides engineering consulting services to serve the needs of the various Office of Physical Plant divisions as well as the academic, research, and administrative functions of the University.

The Mapping Coordinator and assistant provide mapping and documentation of utilities at all locations. Support is also provided for the GIS initiatives for the utilities and landscaping programs. GPS is used in the mapping of facilities.

The Mechanical, ATC, Electrical, and Electronic Engineers support the building systems, providing field support to the operations personnel, investigating power quality problems, and environmental control and equipment problems. They also perform design reviews.

Utility Systems Engineers provide project scope estimates to connect new facilities to the required utility support systems and planning for future facilities and load growth. Other activities include liaison with the utility companies, liaison with PennDOT, design reviews, rights-of-way requests and providing field support to the operations personnel.

Utility Systems environmental compliance is coordinated by the Environmental Compliance Engineer. Monitoring and reporting data to environmental agencies, and investigating operational issues make up the majority of the activities of the program.

The Energy Program Engineer, ESCO Program Engineer and Continuous Commissioning Engineer support an energy program consisting of energy conservation, energy usage monitoring and benchmarking, and performance contracting. Other activities include design reviews and providing field support to the operations personnel.
