Smeal College Trading Room

Design Services provides architectural/engineering services to the university amounting to a construction cost of approximately $14 million annually, with the majority of our work being renovations and small additions. Fully staffed, we are twenty-four strong. Currently, we have twenty-four, including eleven licensed professionals, six designers, and support staff in the following disciplines: Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil. When landscape architectural design, or other specialty work extends beyond our in-house capabilities, we supplement our forces with those of other divisions or outside resources.

The Office of Physical Plant's Design Services maintains a database of standards and guidelines for new construction and renovation projects. It is primarily intended for architects, engineers and contractors performing work for the University.

In addition, Design Services’ print room maintains the archival library of construction documents for all facilities on all Penn State campuses for those designers and technicians who need to research existing details and systems. The print room also operates a printing operation for construction projects going to review and to bid.
